The Broken Mirror Series started in January 2019, with the desire to co-write a book with Erin Lee and the idea of two sisters – one living and one dead. Zoe is trapped in a twisted after life, with an enigmatic guide and Amy is stuck in her grief back in the land of the living. Finding out that trouble was heading for Amy, Zoe had to complete challenges to help her living twin.
We decided quickly who would write the living and the dead twin, and the title – Mirror Maze – and we were off.
The twins winged their way back and forth across the Atlantic as we alternated chapters, never knowing where the other would take the story. Curved balls and plot twists were great at keeping us on our toes.
It was so exciting seeing the next chapter pop up in my inbox. I would stop what I was doing, eager to read where Erin had next sent the twins. It was like a jigsaw puzzle where we didn’t know what the picture was but had the corner pieces in place. I would make a small section with an idea of what pieces would come next, but then come back to it to see something completely unexpected. It was so exciting and fun–even when Erin sent her chapter accompanied by an evil grin!
As the book came to a close, we decided we weren’t ready to let go of the characters quite yet. A long, late night chat in messenger threw out the ideas for book 2 and 3. Titles and blurbs fell easily from our conversation and The Broken Mirror series was born.
